Meet our new President!
Rani H. Singh, PhD, RD is Associate Professor of Human Genetics and Pediatrics and Director of the Genetic Metabolic Nutrition Program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds clinical appointments with the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory Children’s Center in Atlanta and has teaching and mentoring responsibilities to residents, medical genetics fellows, and graduate students in nutrition, genetics, public health, and medicine. With over 18 years of research and clinical experience in the field of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) including the development of a model clinic for the management of patients with IEM, Dr. Singh is intent on bringing the world of genetic metabolic nutrition together through improved clinical research, communication, patient and clinician education programs, and the message of adequate predictive healthcare early in life. Dr. Singh is PI of the HRSA/MCHB (Health Resources and Services Administration/Maternal and Child Health Bureau) funded project “Enhanced Genetic Services and Newborn Screening Collaborative in Region 3” to identify gaps in genetic services. She is currently focused on the high priority gap of assessing and addressing the regional and national needs for the Newborn Screening Long-term Follow-up system. Her current research is aimed at advancing treatment strategies which include 1) interventions designed to effectively transition nutrition management from childhood to adulthood and 2) investigations of the relationship of individual genotypes and nutrition interventions as they relate to treatment outcomes. Her clinical research interest focuses on the efficacy of restrictive diets and genotype/phenotype relationships in disorders including galactosemia, phenylketonuria, and urea cycle disorders. Other critical avenues to assure optimal nutritional care include programmatic efforts to bridge nutritional care with expanded Newborn Screening and genetics services provided through national programs. She continues to provide leadership in the training of genetic metabolic dietitians and nutrition education in the field of genetics. She is founder and host of the LISTSERV, “Pediatric Nutrition On-Line for Metabolic Dietitians” and is the founding president of the Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International (GMDI). For the past 15 years, she has been the Director of the annual research-based Emory Metabolic Camp which serves as an intervention for adolescent and adult women with inborn errors of metabolism to promote compliance to treatment prior to and during pregnancy. She currently serves on the Board of the Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders.

Welcome to the Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG).
SERGG is a network of genetics and newborn screening providers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, and is funded in part by a grant from the Federal Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).
One of the goals of SERGG is to address the inequities in genetic service and resources in the region and to expand existing regional capabilities and resources and to develop new regional systems to address these gaps. Another goal is to improve the existing regional communication infrastructure and to facilitate information sharing among providers of genetic services and consumes and to establish collaborative partnerships with other professional organizations.
SERGG welcomes you to use the information found in this site and invites your participation. |
